Message from our Regional Director – May 2019

Dearly beloved Sisters and Brothers

God’s Easter people.  Alleluia!  He is risen, He is risen indeed!  We know that once we were dead in sin but in Jesus the love of the Father has saved and made us His own people by the blood of Jesus.  We know it and we believe, but for the Easter person it is a great challenge to our faith today as it is a call to live out our faith in action, to truly believe that “eye has not seen nor ear has not heard what God has prepared for us.” (Cor: 2:9).  For the Easter person we do not live for an earthly prize, but one that is waiting for us in heaven.

This Easter Sunday the tears of God flowed in abundance as we saw the massacre of the Christian worshippers in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and other areas of the island, killing 259 people, including children at Sunday school. These unfortunate people, some worshiping the Risen Lord, others celebrating the Eastertide in the various hotels. A river of blood, death and injury for many others. A wail from heaven joined with the cries and anguish of God’s people.  Martyred!  Suffering and life surrendered to God for His glory as it adds to the Alleluia of that first Easter morn. Alleluia!  Alleluia!  A throng of holy ones entered the heavenly court that day. It is faith that enables us to believe and to carry on.

We at LWC mourn and grieve with our beloved people of God and we, as they, must go on and know that He is Risen, He is no longer in the tomb. We need to leave Calvary behind and continue to follow on to life in Jesus as He promised He will be with us in every situation in which we find ourselves. He is in the valleys of our lives and will lead us through the darkest moment.

God in His love for us continues to give us all that we need for this time – His sacraments in the Church and above all His Blessed mother Mary. May is her month when we take seriously God’s gift to us in Mary, when at the foot of the cross He gave us Mary as our mother.  “Son behold your mother, Mother behold your son…”  (John 19:26-27)

Mary also told Juan Diego at Guadalupe that he was not to be afraid that she was his mother and this is for all of us, “Hear me and understand well, my little son, that nothing should frighten or grieve

you. Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that sickness, nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health?”

It is only our faith in God’s protection and plan for us that will enable us to go on with courage and strength. God is real, He is alive, let us not allow the strings of the tombs to entrap us but, with trust and faith, sing our Alleluia as God’s Easter people.

Alleluia! “Were not our hearts burning within us as we travelled the way.” …….Blessings, Rose
