Born\u00a0poor.\u00a0Studied\u00a0in\u00a0Paris,\u00a0France, and\u00a0ordained\u00a0in\u00a01700. While a\u00a0seminarian\u00a0he delighted in researching the\u00a0writings\u00a0of\u00a0Church\u00a0Fathers,\u00a0Doctors\u00a0and\u00a0Saints\u00a0as they related to the\u00a0Blessed Virgin Mary, to whom he was singularly devoted.<\/p>\n
Under\u00a0Mary\u2018s inspiration, he founded the\u00a0Daughters of Divine Wisdom<\/em>, a religious institute of\u00a0women\u00a0devoted to the care of the\u00a0desititute, and a brother organization, the\u00a0Brothers of Saint Gabriel<\/em>. During this work, he began his apostolate of\u00a0preaching\u00a0the\u00a0Rosary\u00a0and authentic\u00a0Marian\u00a0devotion. He\u00a0preached\u00a0so forcefully and effectively against the errors of\u00a0Jansenism\u00a0that he was expelled from several\u00a0dioceses\u00a0in\u00a0France. In\u00a0Rome\u00a0Pope\u00a0Clement XI\u00a0conferred on him the title and authority of\u00a0Missionary Apostolic<\/em>, which enabled him to continue his apostolate after returning to\u00a0France. He\u00a0preached\u00a0Mary\u00a0everywhere and to everyone. A member of the\u00a0Third Order of\u00a0Saint\u00a0Dominic<\/em>,\u00a0Saint\u00a0Louis was one of the greatest apostles of the\u00a0Rosary\u00a0in his day, and by means his miraculously inspiring book,\u00a0The Secret of the Rosary<\/em><\/ins>, he is still so today; the most common manner of reciting the\u00a0Rosary\u00a0is the method that originated with\u00a0Saint\u00a0Louis\u2019s\u00a0preaching. In\u00a01715, he founded the\u00a0missionaries\u00a0known as the\u00a0Company of Mary<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0Montfort Missionaries<\/em>.<\/p>\n His greatest contribution to the\u00a0Church\u00a0and world is Total Consecration to the\u00a0Blessed\u00a0Virgin. He propagated this in his day by\u00a0preaching\u00a0and after his own\u00a0death\u00a0by his other famous book\u00a0True Devotion to Mary<\/em><\/ins>. Consecration to\u00a0Mary\u00a0is for\u00a0Saint\u00a0Louis the perfect manner of renewing one\u2019s\u00a0baptismal promises. His spirituality has been espoused by millions, especially\u00a0Pope\u00a0John Paul II, who has consecrated not only himself but every place he has visited as\u00a0pope. In\u00a0True Devotion to Mary<\/em><\/ins>,\u00a0Saint\u00a0Louis prophesied that the army of souls consecrated to\u00a0Mary\u00a0will be\u00a0Her\u00a0instrument in defeating the Devil and his\u00a0Antichrist.
